Find Ricochet: The Kane Show Call

A month after Riki vanished, a man referring to himself as "Danny" called a local radio station, Hot 99.5, (based out of Rockville MD, another suburb of DC) in response to an on-air request by the morning show DJs for listeners to call in and tell about interesting things they had stolen from parties.

What the caller had stolen that he and all of the Kane Show DJs found hysterically funny was a friendly little dog that had come up to him after the party was over. He knew the dog's name was Ricochet from the many signs posted by whoever was looking for their dog.

That call took place on Friday, June 25th (Riki disappeared May 27th). It lasted about a minute. You can listen to that broadcast HERE.

Imagine Amy's shock when, that morning on the way to work, she happened to be listening to that very show, and she heard that call taking place. Can you possibly put yourself in her place, and think how you would react?

Of course she contacted Hot 99.5, and on Thursday, June 30th, again on the Kane Show, Amy was interviewed by the same DJs. At least the follow-up was given about five minutes. The DJ said all of the right things, minus any kind of apology or acknowledgement that there was anything wrong with their on air reaction to the call by "Danny". He referred to the call, played a part of it, asked good questions and gave Amy all the time to answer and to speak that she needed.

RIKI'S STORY

"I first saw Ricochet when he was just a day old. At the barn where I worked, they bred Jack Russells. I was petting the puppies when the runt of the litter rolled over on his back, kicked his legs around and started making little squeaks. He was the size of a small potato, and I could wrap my hands around his tiny body.

A few weeks later he was laying on my chest when he opened his eyes, and I fed him his first soft food and his first kibble.

I took him home when he turned 8 weeks old. He was afraid at first, but he got used to sleeping in my bed. Since then Riki has been my constant and unwavering companion.

He goes with me to work and to school (he waits in the car, but some professors let him come to class). During camp, he follows the kids around and is always a good sport when the little girls want to put gel in his hair and paint his toenails pink. He runs around all day making trouble, he is a little terror. But when we're alone, he sits next to me on the couch and rests his head in my lap, I know I'm quite safe relying on him.

He loves vacations; the beach is his favorite. He likes to swim where it's shallow and bite the waves when they roll up to him. He learned how to ride a pony, sitting in the saddle in front of me. He loves to chase the farms chickens and rabbits, making a complete nuisance of himself. (What kind of a Jack Russell would he be if he didn't?)

He is gentle, loving, kind, bold and loyal. He has a big dog personality in a small dog body. He has always been willing to protect me from any stranger he thought was threatening.

I miss Ricochet every second he is gone.
